this is Mobile Bay Frozen looking North from the Fairhope Pier towards Daphne. I have seen this happen a few times but still rare site in South Alabama. not sure the exact date of this photo but i think it was around 1975. also notice that there is only a few piers. lumis

Neat. I think it froze over again sometime in the '80s...I've only seen it happen once...

I have seen this happen 3 times in my 35 years here but yeah i remember that well i fell through and had to walk half a mile on the beach back to my house. By the time i got home my pants were frozen solid and had frost bite on my fingers

I think it was in '81 or '82 that the bay last froze. It was frozen solid about 20 feet out, but a kid my age (at the time) could walk maybe 50 feet out. There was ice maybe 100 feet out

wow! never heard of the bay dong this and i have lived here all of my (short)life. I do recall when Hurricane..Georges? I believe sucked the water out of the bay i walked hundreds of yards out on bare sand it seems
