Boat Traffic along these shores was important before recorded dates. Sailing Vessels came from fresh water. For years local traffic supplied the needs of and transportation for the people. Prominent landings along the shore were: D’OKIVE ~ about 1812, HOWARD ~ 1838. STARKE, DRYER, SHORT, FREEMAN, YUILLE (Belrose) ~ 1904 and DAPHNE.  This property has been the Howard Hotel, Dryer Hotel, John Morrill home, Sacred Heart Scholasticate and Bayside Academy. This Building was shelled during the Civil War by Admiral Farragut.
